A Morning’s Writing at the CWC Conference & Retreat,

As always, the Clockhouse Writers’ Conference & Retreat will offer engaging and inspirational writing workshops, time for solitary writing, readings of participants’ work, and much more, including the annual Visiting Professional and Visiting Writer sessions, hosted by Goddard’s MFAW program and open to CWC&R participants.

This year’s  Visiting Writer will be Nick Flynn. Flynn has received fellowships and awards from, among other organizations, The Guggenheim Foundation, PEN, and The Library of Congress. Nick’s poetry collections include: Some Ether (2000) Blind Huber (2002), The Captain Asks for a Show of Hands (2011), and My Feelings. (2015). And his memoirs include: The Reenactments (2013), The Ticking Is the Bomb (2010), and Another Bullshit Night in Suck City (2004). Another Bullshit Night in Suck City, which was adapted for the movie Being Flynn, starring Robert De Niro, for which Nick was also a producer and artistic collaborator. Some of the venues his poems, essays, and nonfiction have appeared in include The New Yorker, the Paris Review, and National Public Radio’s This American Life. He is currently a professor on the creative writing faculty at the University of Houston, where he is in residence each spring. In 2019, Graywolf will publish his latest book, I Will Destroy You. His work has been translated into fifteen languages.

Agent Samantha Shea, Vice President at the Georges Borchardt Literary Agency will be this year’s Visiting Professional. Her list includes literary fiction, memoir/narrative nonfiction, journalism, popular culture, essays, cultural criticism, and history. Shea’s authors are regularly named for numerous awards and honors, including the “5 Under 35” honor from the National Book Foundation, the “Best of Young American Novelists” honor from Granta magazine, the Kirkus Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Awards, the PEN/ Robert W. Bingham Prize, and others. Among her illustrious authors, she represents John McManus and Rahna Reiko Rizzuto.

The 2018 Clockhouse Writers’ Conference & Retreat will take place from July 2 through July 6 on Goddard College’s Plainfield, Vermont, campus.
